Sogang University is one of the leading science, engineering, research and liberal arts universities of South Korea.
The university was established in 1960 by the Wisconsin province of the Society of Jesus to provide education based on Catholic beliefs inspired by the Jesuit education philosophy. Sister schools of Sogang founded on Jesuit philosophies include Georgetown University in USA and Sophia University in Japan.
It ranked first in Korea among four-year universities without medical schools in JoongAng Ilbo Newspaper in 2009. Sogang University is widely regarded as one of Top 3 private Korean Schools or Top 5 highly reputed universities. Sogang School of Economics is famous for its prominent scholars who led the successful economic development of Korea during 1970-1990. Notable alumni include Park Gen-Hye, current President of the Republic of Korea. Over 1000 Sogang Alumni are living in USA including more than 200 alumni in Silicon Valley with many of them working in high tech industry.
